"A Horseman in the Sky" is a short story by Ambrose Bierce.
It is set during the American Civil War. The central character is a young Virginian, named Carter Druse, who decides to fight for the north. He finds himself unavoidably having to kill a horseman spy fighting for the south that he discovers while on the watch, who turns out to be his father. The story cycles around the considerations and feelings of this young man. This is a story which talks about Carter's conflict with himself and reality.
